Special EducationIntroductionThe Winnipeg School Division has a wide range of programs and services available in order to meet student needs. Sometimes a student’s needs are so exceptional that he or she requires Special Education support in schools. To make sure your child and your family feel supported in school, you need to know what services and supports are available in the Winnipeg School Division.
The Special Education Department is responsible for the coordination and evaluation of Special Education programming for the Winnipeg School Division. This includes the identification of general system needs related to staffing, program, and space requirements; intake and processing of requests for placement; determination and monitoring of placement and supports; arrangements for transportation for students entering Special Education programs; support to teachers, principals, and support staff in programming; and, professional development opportunities for staff, principals, and teachers in the area of Special Education.
