Basic Eligibility Requirements:

  - This award recognizes the effort of a young woman between the ages of 14 and

    17 years of age, who donates her time and energy to make the community and

    world a better place through her volunteer efforts

  - Looking for a student who has taken creative initiative in her volunteer efforts. 

    (Examples of these efforts may include: fighting drugs, crime or violence,

    cleaning up the environment and working to end discrimination and poverty,

    assisting women and children who are victims of domestic violence, mentoring

    young girls or any other volunteer activities that benefit the local, national or

    international community)

  - Although the application form does not require letters of reference or

    supportive data such as awards or newspaper articles, we would suggest that

    the student might want to consider attaching this type of documentation

  - This contest is only open to legal residents of Canada and 15 years of age or

    older.  Employees of either of the Contest Sponsors (Scotia Bank and

    StudentAwards.com), their respective affiliated and related companies,

    advertising and promotional agencies, other representatives or agents and

    members of the respective immediate families of such employees and anyone

    with whom such employees are domiciled and excluded from this contest

Offered to students who:

  - Have achieved a high school average of at least 90% calculated on the basis of

    results in (or equivalent courses for north-western Ontario students):

               * English 30S OR Français 30S and Anglais 30S

               * Mathematics 30S

               * The highest marks in three of Biology 30S, Chemistry 30S, Physics 30S,

                 History 30S, Geography 30S, or a language at the 30S level other than

                 those accepted for “a” above;

  - Have demonstrated evidence of leadership qualities and future potential

  - Have demonstrated evidence of a high level of communication skills

  - Have a record of community involvement (e.g., school, local community, city-

    wide/regional, provincial)

  - Have demonstrated evidence of special abilities other than those shown by

    academic results (e.g., aesthetics, athletics, literary accomplishments,

    languages)

Special Documents/Submissions/Requirements:

  - Application forms are to be made available through high school guidance (or

    principal’s) offices and directly from the University of Manitoba’s Financial Aid

    and Awards Office and web site  Short-listed applicants will be interviewed by

    a selection committee.
