Child Guidance Clinic
History
The Child Guidance Clinic is an education support service agency. We were founded in 1951. We work together with school teachers, principals and parents to provide specialized help for school children.
The work of the Child Guidance Clinic usually takes place in schools. Services are free of charge to children and their families. Students who attend public school and some private schools may use our services if their schools are located within the boundaries of the following school divisions:
River East Transcona School Division
Winnipeg School Division
The Child Guidance Clinic is administered and operated by the Winnipeg School Division and coordinated by the Central Management Committee consisting of representatives of the two school divisions.
The participating school divisions decide which Child Guidance Clinic services they require. The service teams that the Child Guidance Clinic provides can be made up of any or all of the following:
Reading Clinicians
Speech-Language Pathologists
School Psychologists
Social Workers
Psychiatrists (provided through M.A.T.C.)
Audiologists
The Child Guidance Clinic employs approximately 160 staff members. Clinicians have been highly trained in their professions. Each year services are provided to more than 13% of all the children in the schools we serve.
The Child Guidance Clinic provides a wide range of special services to help meet the educational social, emotional, communication and behaviorial needs of children in a coordinated manner.
