About Us

The Winnipeg School Division, established in 1871, is the largest of six public school divisions in Winnipeg, serving 77 schools and over 32,000 students and their families in our North, South, Central and Inner City districts. Innovative programming reflects the varied cultural and economic needs of our large student population and focuses on helping all students achieve success. Our size, along with the commitment of our staff, parents and volunteers,
enables us to bring together the full spectrum of services and professional expertise to help ensure the success of our students and their families in the 21st century.

Ready to read!

Every February, students around the Division keep a book close at hand for I Love to Read Month. After all, you never know when you might get the call to “stop, drop and read.”

To kick off the month’s festivities, Greenway School welcomed a trio of guest readers: Winnipeg School Division Board Chair Rita Hildahl, Education Minister Nancy Allan and Manitoba Teachers’ Society President Paul Olson.

Ms. Hildahl said I Love to Read Month promotes early childhood interest in reading and highlights the importance of literacy skills throughout life.

“Reading helps us to learn, it gives us new ideas, it helps us solve problems, to write fluently and think carefully,” she told students. “I hope you students will always read as much as you possibly can.”
