Aboriginal Education Introduction

 

The goal of Aboriginal Education is to provide assistance to the instructional staff and consultants in order that they may develop and implement appropriate programming and supports for all students in this area Aboriginal students acquire a positive self-identity through learning their own histories, cultures and contemporary lifestyles. Non Aboriginal students will develop an understanding and respect for the histories, cultures, and contemporary lifestyles of Aboriginal peoples. They will also develop informed opinions on matters relating to Aboriginal People. The importance of the integration of Aboriginal values, languages, histories and cultures being promoted in all aspects of education.

The Aboriginal Education Consultants assists schools in developing, adapting and implementing classroom curriculums/programs and Aboriginal Languages programs at the elementary and secondary levels to meet the needs of all students. She assists in the preparation and acquisition of materials for use by the instructional staff to promote the awareness and understanding of Aboriginal culture(s). She establishes and maintains liaison with Aboriginal organizations and with Manitoba Education and Training. She organizes, develops, and conducts divisional and school-based in-service session in Aboriginal Education.
