Physical Education

Athletics in the Winnipeg School Division

 

General Goals

Winnipeg School Division believes that an organized interscholastic athletics program should be  provided in order to:

  1. Reinforce the skills and concepts learned in the physical education program;
  2. Enhance the development of the physical, social and emotional development of the students;
  3. Enhance the development of school spirit;
  4. Support the development of values such as teamwork, self-discipline, respect for others and fair play.

Specific Learning Outcomes

Through participation in the athletics program, the students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the skills and concepts learned in the physical education program;
  2. Demonstrate the values of teamwork, fair play, respect for others and self-discipline;
  3. Improve their self-concept;
  4. Compete against top athletes from across The Division to improve their skills;
  5. Contribute to the overall school climate/spirit

Interscholastic athletics are offered to students grades 4-12.  The activities are selected and governed by the Athletic Councils as follows:

bullet Elementary Athletic Council    -    Grades 4-6

bullet Junior High Athletic Council  -   Grades 7-9

bullet Senior High Athletic Council    -    Grades 10-12
