Technology Planning

Novell

In accordance with the 5 Year Technology Integration Plan, the Technology Advisory Committee established a review team comprised of 3 senior high school teachers, 3 senior high school technicians and members of Research, Planning and Technology in order to select a new operating system for high school servers. A field trial of the Novell server operating system was conducted in August 2003.

In May 2004, the Board approved a 3 year agreement with Novell Canada for unlimited server licenses for all high schools. Implementation of the Novell server operating system in the high schools began in the 2004/2005 school year.

On July 11, 2005, the Board approved an amendment to the 3 year agreement with Novell Canada to include licenses for all Division facilities.

The implementation of the Novell server operating system in elementary and junior high schools began in January 2006.

During the 2005/2006 school year, the preliminary installation of the Novell server operating system and new Novell server was completed in 25 elementary/junior high schools.

The installation of Novell will continue in the remaining elementary/junior high/high schools during the 2006/2007 school year.
